Art Direction is one most significant part of any film, TV series, award functions etc. Art Directors design sets for shooting purpose. Numbers of interior designers are working as full time art directors in films, ad-films, television and with proper work knowledge, right marketing & networking you can easily get into the show business. Designing a good set is a big challenge and it needs quality decision making skills, management skill, great artistic sense and you have to be good at visualizing the outcome. Nowadays, not only films, there are web-series, short films, shows and big production houses are looking for highly creative people to be a part of their team.  
You must need to have an excellent portfolio along with being a good person to excel in the film industry. There are scopes in government jobs for interior designers in various sectors like PWD, regional development department etc. Not just with the degree but you have to be highly skilled & knowledgeable with handful of experience because designers are being hired for the effective completion of the project. Starting as a freelancer is also a better idea to begin with. There are a lot of sites you can register with as freelancer & you can get projects online. You can upload your work on pinterest or houzz like platforms and you have the bigger marketplace with you that are social media platforms like facebook, instagram where you can promote your works to reach wider audience but you have be really good with your skills first.
